Healing Colors From Nature: Getting Started with Natural Dyes, with Deepa Natarajan

Nature provides us with everything we need to thrive. In this three hour workshop come learn about the brilliant world of natural dyes. We will discuss fibers, mordanting, and locally available plants that produces wonderful color. This class will also focus on natural dye plants that additional have medicinal properties that can be imparted on the cloth, an ancient practice known as Ayurvastra in India. You’ll take home samples in a variety of colors and fibers. For the new and experienced dyer alike. Enjoy a medicinal mocktail inspired by natural dyes we pull dye samples out from the vats!
TEACHER: Since 2006 Deepa Natarajan has been the public program coordinator at the UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley where she’s turned her passion for ethnobotany in to a year round series of classes, workshops and special events. She is also the founder of plantspeople, an organization dedicated to educating the public on using plants in our daily lives. She lives in Berkeley where she loves to Garden.
