Food/Crop Sharing in our Community, Urban Farming
Free Lecture Series – Nutritional Counselor Sara Russell speaking about Locally Raised Food and Community Crop Sharing.
We live in a state that, while desperately split over the issue of GMO foods, ultimately voted against the “right to know” what kind of food is in the package. We are exposed to deceptive marketing strategies which promote denatured foods as healthy, while real, life-sustaining foods are viewed as dangerous, eccentric and expensive. We live in a culture that, despite being obsessed about counting calories and limiting fat intake, continues to struggle with an ever-growing obesity epidemic. We are crippled by fear and guilt in our relationship with food.
Challenging the distorted relationships our culture fosters between people and foods, this presentation proposes strategies for using these problems as a springboard for the collaborative development of solutions. The awareness about what food is and responsibility over where it comes from can foster the development of joy-giving strategies for producing, preparing and sharing food in community.
