Fairfax Streets For People
Join us for a carefree mid-summer Sunday afternoon. Play in the car-free street and enjoy activities all over town.
Streets for People allows participants to walk, dance, eat, shop and celebrate in the town free from car traffic. People of all ages are inspired to gather and participate in our community in a new way, creating vibrant places within our public spaces.
The inspiration behind this event is Ciclovia (Spanish for open streets or a bike path), a successful car-free program originating in Bogota, Colombia that closes 70 miles of roadway every Sunday, allowing two million participants to celebrate the city in a healthy environment without cars. Open streets events like this have spread like wildfire all over the world including Cape Town’s Open Streets, San Francisco and Berkeley’s Sunday Streets and New York City’s Summer Streets.
Activities this year include live music including a showcase for our town’s young musicians, yoga, dancing, a street mandala, tacos in the street, arts and crafts, health and wellness in Bolinas Park, animal adoption, and alternative transportation.
