Extreme Weather in a Changing Climate
As average temperatures continue to rise due to human changes to the composition of the atmosphere, cases of “extreme” weather are very likely to occur with greater frequency and severity, with serious impacts on human and ecological systems. Learn about the science of climate change, current areas of research, and some possible implications for the future.
Michael F. Wehner is a senior staff scientist in the Computational Research Division at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Dr. Wehner’s current research concerns the behavior of extreme weather events in a changing climate. He is the author or co-author of over 90 scientific papers and is currently a lead author for both the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the upcoming Third US National Assessment on Climate Change.
