Environmental Hero and Keynote Speaker of the Environmental Leader of Marin Awards 2013: Huey Johnson

Huey D. Johnson premiered in the documentary film “Rebels with a Cause”, and founder of the Resource Renewal Institute and former California Secretary of Resources (1978 -1982) as Keynote at the Award Ceremony to honor the 2013 Awardees.

Mr Johnson’s pioneering policy, Investing for Prosperity, was one of the first comprehensive and long-term environmental plans in existence. His book, Green Plans: Blueprint for Sustainable Earth, was published in 2008 by University of Nebraska Press.

Congressman Jared Huffman

Since joining the California State Legislature in 2006 as an Assemblyman, Congressman Huffman worked nonstop for the ocean, introducing bills protecting wildlife, strengthening the Department of Fish and Game, and opposing offshore drilling. A prolific legislator who has passed 35 bills, Huffman is also one of the legislature’s leading advocates for sustainable water policy. Huffman has won dozens of awards for his environmental stewardship. A few of his most prominent include his “Ocean Hero Award for Legislative Leadership in Protecting Ocean Resources” award” (2010) from Environment California, Heal the Bay and NRDC, among others and the “Environmental Leadership Award” (2009) from the California League of Conservation voters. In the current legislative session, Huffman is leading the fight to ban shark finning in California and distinctively label GMO Salmon.

Environmental Leader – Volunteer Community Member: Rebekah Collins — for lighting the spark that launched Marin Clean Energy:

Environmental Educator: Laurette Rogers – for her founding of STRAW “Students and Teachers Restoring a Watershed” and her belief in the power of youth to transform their environment.

Sustainable Business-Marin: Good Earth — for their efforts in the GMO campaign, not to mention their leadership in the food and health industry for over 40 years:

Environmental School/Education Center K-12: Walker Creek Ranch — for their 50 plus years of offering youth outdoor adventures and environmental education for k-12 students.
