Eating with the Elements

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, there are five seasons, rather than the four that we know of in the West. By observing Nature, the Chinese determined which foods and herbs have a “food as medicine” quality associated with each of these seasons. Join professional Western Herbalist, Cheryl Fromholzer, and Nutritionist and Gourmet Chef, Sarah Bearden, as we present a class for each season throughout the year. In each of our five classes, we will blend the best of East and West as we present local seasonal food and herbs with a Five Element twist. Our classes include lecture, cooking demos, tastings (and take-home goodies) of all the recipes made in class and a folder including all the recipes and notes for the class. The Earth Element is all about Digestion. We will be discussing foods and herbs that assist our ability to digest our food. Our food focus will be on the foods of late summer and on making cultured or fermented vegetables to enhance our digestion. If you have digestive issues or have been curious about making sauerkraut or other fermented foods, this is the class for you!
