Building Health Initiative Lunch and Learn: Toxic Flame Retardants – What You Need To Know
Did you know that until recently California law mandated toxic flame retardants in furniture despite controversy surrounding their actual efficacy? As of January 2014, and a new regulatory environment, healthier furniture with no-added flame retardants (FR) can be specified and purchased both commercially and residentially. Ineffective flammability standards led to widespread use of toxic FR chemicals for the past 30+ years and new California flammability standards can now be met without use of toxic chemicals, IF specified, for upholstered furniture. Information and resources for specifications/purchases to be provided.
