Bicycle Transportation: Planning, Policy, and Liability

This course, the second of a three-part series, will cover bikeway planning and the policies and practices that are behind the most bicycle-friendly cities. Bike planning concepts as well as preparing bicycle master plans will be addressed. The policies that transform an average city into a bike-friendly city will be highlighted. These policies affect planning, parks &recreation, public works, and traffic engineering departments. Recent state laws such as AB 1358 Complete Streets and AB 32 Global Warming Solutions Act that are also influencing the direction towards green transportation modes will be discussed. Finally, liability and fear of liability will be addressed.
