Berkeley Youth Alternatives Orchard Winter Pruning Workshop

A 2-day fruit tree workshop focusing mainly on pome (apples, pears) and stone fruit (plum, apricot, peach) trees. All skill levels welcome.

Day 1: Saturday, January 11 (1-4pm)
Why prune? Anatomy of a fruit tree. Basic pruning cuts and training systems. Basic cuts demonstration. Basic pruning cuts mini-lab.

Day 2: Saturday, January 18 (1-4pm)
Making a plan. Making the cuts. Application of learning by pruning a fruit tree.

Materials: Bring pruning shears if you have them, gloves, wet weather clothing, snacks to share.

$40-$20 sliding scale donation. Donations for the class will benefit the Youth Garden Program at Berkeley Youth Alternatives and the therapeutic garden at Chaparral House eldercare facility.
