Bat Night at Olompali

This event has passed.

Did you know that an individual little brown bat can eat up to 1000 bugs in a single hour? Olompali State Historic Park is home to eight species of insectivorous bats! Learn more about our flying friends at Olompali’s annual Bat Night.

Join us for an opportunity to meet live bats, view bat houses, create a bat mask, and make bat style s’mores. Just after dusk, Corky Quirk of NorCal Bats will present a slide show about the wonderful diversity and benefits of bats worldwide. At dark we hope to see some of the park’s bats swoop and dive while they catch insects on the wing.

Children especially enjoy this annual event, but all ages are welcome. Bring a blanket or chair to sit on while we watch the bats and a flashlight for walking after dark. Olompali is located just north of Novato at 8901 Redwood Highway.

For additional information, contact Olompali State Historic Park by phone, or visit the Facebook page for Olompali State Historic Park. Bat Night is being sponsored by California State Parks with funding and assistance by the cooperating association The Olompali People (TOP).
