Thursday | June 05, 2014 | 5:30 am — 8:00 pm

ALBA is an incubator program for organic farmers. The students receive 6 months of classroom instruction followed by 6 months of training in the field. Upon completion of the program, graduates are given the opportunity to lease land on the farm. The classroom and offices are located in the first permitted straw bale building in Monterey County. ALBA’S classroom instructor, Nathan Hackleroad, will describe the program, explain how organic farming reduces green house gases and offers other environmental benefits, as well a give us a tour of the farm. A presentation by the architect, Dennis Hodgin, on the building itself and straw bale construction, will be delivered by USGBC co-chair Alfred Seccombe.
