EcoHouse Tenancy

Living at EcoHouse

Because EcoHouse is an active demonstration project, the tenancy is atypical is several key ways, which are summarized below. For more detail, view the sample lease addendum.

  1. ACCESS FOR EDUCATION PURPOSES
The Ecology Center hosts workshops, classes, tours, demonstrations, and media events onsite. Approximately twice a month, tour groups are led through the EcoHouse kitchen and living room. The tenant(s) will be given advance notice of all visits to the interior, as well as all classes and workshops held in the yard.
  2. ACCESS FOR IMPROVEMENTS & DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS
The Ecology Center is continually looking for worthy projects and additions that fulfill the ecological demonstration aspect of EcoHouse. Building and landscape projects will be initiated and executed with advanced notice to the tenant(s), but without the tenant's approval.
  3. PARTICIPATION IN DEMONSTRATION ASPECT
The EcoHouse tenant(s) will be obligated to participate in a few demonstration aspects of EcoHouse. Namely, the tenant must intermittently flush the rainwater catchment system valve and use detergents compatible with the graywater system. The tenant will be regularly communicating with Ecology Center staff and tour guides regarding scheduling, rent, and other matters. Tenant is welcome to work in the garden and enjoy the food growing there, but can only make changes that are pre-approved by Ecology Center staff.
