Fieldworker. Photo by Almudena Ortiz."Overcoming Faceless Labor: Farm workers through the Lens of Almudena Ortiz"
Photography Exhibit, 1st Floor Lobby
Almudena Ortiz is a photographer, folklorist and photography professor at the Academy of Art College (San Francisco), who has explored the farmworkers' highly personal experiences on-site in Salinas, St. Helena and the Central Valley.
In her photography, Ortiz puts a face on the hands that labor the food we eat.  Their bending backs tell a story of how a society uses, abuses and disposes of human beings and their dignity.  They work the land completely covered, exposing only their eyes, to protect themselves from harsh elements and pesticides.
