EcoHouse Tour, and talk on East Bay Native Plant Gardening with Lyn Talkovsky

Come get inspired and learn new skills at the EcoHouse with a tour of the site and gardens, and a talk on East Bay Native Plant Gardening with Lyn Talkovsky. Begin at 10am with a tour of the Ecology Center's EcoHouse demonstration site and learn about simple improvements that can be made to green an urban home. The tour includes: Berkeley's first city-permitted wetland / greywater system, rainwater cistern and water catchment strategies, a living roof garden, organic permaculture gardening, solar panels, on-demand and solar water heater, natural and recycled building materials, native drought tolerant plants, mushroom cultivation, earthworks raingarden, drip irrigation, and more. Longtime native plant landscaper Lyn Talkovsky will give a talk and clinic on designing your yard utilizing native plants. She'll discuss plant varieties, growing conditions, local sources for plants. Along with ample question/ answer/ discussion time. To round out the clinic she'll include a walking tour of the neighborhood's great gardens. Also later that afternoon you can participate in the 10/10/10 Global Work Party happening at the EcoHouse in conjunction with 350.org global day of action. In 2009, 350.org organized a global day of climate action with over 5200 actions in 181 countries, "the most widespread day of political action in the planet's history," according to CNN. This year, come participate at the EcoHouse as we work on garden and building improvement projects.
Time: 10am - 1pm.
Location: EcoHouse, 1305 Hopkins St., (enter via garden entrance on Peralta), Berkeley.
Cost: $15 general, $10 EC members, no one turned away for lack of funds.
