Watersong Summit This Sunday, 1/17/16 to Explore Sustainable Water Solutions

20160113watersongThis Sunday, we’ll be part of the Watersong Summit, an event that brings together innovative solutions, learning, and conversation on water. Part block party, part conference, and part design expo, the event begins during the day with a FREE musical walking tour. Follow behind New Orleans-style marching band MJ’s Brass Boppers on a West Oakland tour of different water systems, including a rainwater catchment system at American Steel, an aquaponics system, and drip irrigation at Afrikatown Community Garden. In the late afternoon, the tour ends and a drink mixer begins. In the evening, you can pick up a ticket to hear some great speaker panels on water, energy and climate, participate in live demos followed by music and dancing.

The Ecology Center is a co-sponsor of this event, and we’ll be tabling during the evening part of the event, come say hi! We’re excited to be a part of this event organized by Bay Area Green Tours, DIG Cooperative, Bay Bucks, and Songline. Full schedule, locations, and link for tickets are on the Facebook event page. We hope to see you there!

  1. Yesterday I met a young man who is working for a family run water well installation company. They have been in business for years and are both reputable and successful. His father has worked there for years and his brother and himself have since joined him. Given that he only has a high school degree and is now older (and still single), he wants to pursue a career directed toward ecological safe water system designs. Most likely that the company he is with would retain him in that capacity. He realizes he needs a higher level degree for credibility in this capacity. On the other hand, this person does not need nor want the ‘full college experience.’ I am in high tech space exploration and he is the kind of person I would hire i at my own high tech company but we are not in that business. What would you suggest someone like this do?
