Watershed Poetry Festival this Saturday, 9/29/12

This annual event will be back in Civic Center Park, adjacent to our Saturday Farmers’ Market. This year’s festival is dedicated to the life and work of Ernest Callenbach, a writer and long time member of the Ecology Center. Activities for the day include poetry readings by U.S. Poet Laureate Emeritus Robert Hass, Brenda Hillman, Joy Harjo, Michael McClure, Francisco X. Alarcón, Rebecca Foust, and K-12 student poets, and We are Nature Open Mic. The River Village exhibit area features tables and tents for books, literary magazines, alternative and DIY zines, and organizations, with a twenty-foot “Buffaloon” from the Buffalo Field Campaign, an interactive installation “Create with Nature Zone,” by environmental artist Zach Pine and a Creek Poem installation over the footprint of Strawberry Creek. The day begins at 10 am with a Creek Walk, main stage events begin at noon and go until 4:30. For more information, click here. We’re also looking for volunteers to help with the set up, break down and running some of the activities during the day! If you would like to help make this event a success, contact leah@ecologycenter.org or (510) 548-2220 x235.
