Governor Brown made California’s drought an official emergency last week, asking all businesses and residents to cut back water use by 20%. Conserving now means that our existing water supplies will go further, and is the least expensive strategy for both water users and water districts to cope with the drought. Simple water saving devices for your toilet, shower, sinks and spigot can help your household reduce water use, and are available for free from EcoHome Improvement and EBMUD! Read on for details.
EcoHome Improvement is offering up to three water-saving devices for each person who brings in a voucher from their Facebook page. They are offering low-flow shower head, faucet aerators, portable water bucket, shower timers, replacement toilet flappers, and more. You need a Facebook account to redeem this, but starting on Thursday, January 30th, they will offer remaining supplies on first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of three devices per household. Visitors to their store can also enter in a free raffle to win a complete kit of water-saving tools.
EBMUD has a program available to their customers that provides a low-flow shower head, low-flow kitchen and bathroom sink faucet aerators, dye tablets to check for toilet leaks, and a nozzle for your hose. To get your free supplies, call 1-866-403-2683 to schedule an in-person consultation, or fill out their survey online and devices will be mailed to you. You can also go to the EBMUD building in downtown Oakland, Monday – Friday, 8 – 4:30. All information on this program is available on their website here.
