The Economics of Happiness Conference This Weekend, March 23-25

Attendees of this weekends’ conference will have the chance to sit in on a workshop lead by the Ecology Center’s Executive Director Martin Bourque along with Annie Leonard from the Story of Stuff. Join the discussion on Rewriting the Story of Stuff: “From extraction to production, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives is taking a big toll on the planet, our health and our communities… What strategies and leverage points can be used to make our materials economy more healthy, sustainable and just?” This workshop is just one example of many exciting presenters slated for the weekend.
The conference will bring together activists from around the world to discuss an agenda for change – away from jobless growth towards sustainable livelihoods; from large-scale sweatshops towards scaled-down business; from self-recrimination and guilt towards empowerment and collaboration; from a globalized system of exploitation and inequality towards an economics of happiness. Interconnected topics include public policy choices; local initiatives in food, energy, education, business and banking; the need to bridge the North-South divide; and the influence of the economy on our psychological well-being.
