20140530busdgalaJoin us in supporting BUSD’s public school garden program! With strong community support, this program will be able to rise above severe funding cuts. An upcoming gala on Saturday, June 7th will help raise money for the program’s 2014-15 school year, and tickets are on sale now! Get yours online here, only a limited number will be available at the door.

This program has been offering prekindergarten to high school students gardening and nutrition education for over twelve years. The district-wide program supports student learning in science, math, and language arts, and encourages students to explore the value of eating fresh fruits and vegetables, getting physical activity, and knowing where their food comes from. This is such an important program that helps build the foundation for a resilient food movement, starting with our youth.

The Ecology Center is joined by local businesses, Whole Foods, UC Berkeley’s Chancellor’s Office, Andronicos, M. Lowe Jewelers in celebrating the program at the gala. There will be a beautiful spread catered by Chef Silvia with local and regional produce from small organic farms found in the immediate area. On tap will be small craft brews from Pyramid Ales and CaliCraft Brewing Co., along with a wide selection of Mendocino wines. Berkeley Public Middle School ensemble will play jazz while attendees peruse auction items.

Join us and several leading voices in the good food movement as our guest speakers for this gala reception. We hope to see you at the gala and we look forward to continuing the conversations around food systems and education. Please help spread the word and purchase event tickets here.
